Jochen Strube

Direktor Institut für Thermische Verfahrens- und Prozesstechnik, TU Clausthal

Jochen Strube is a chemical engineer and since 2006 Director of the Institute of Thermal Process Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology. He studied chemical engineering at the University of Dortmund from 1985 to 1992 and received his diploma in 1992. Afterward, he worked as a research associate in process and plant engineering under Prof. H. Schmidt-Traub, supported by a graduate scholarship from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and a Max Buchner Research Fellowship. He earned his doctorate in 1996 with a thesis on the simulation and optimization of continuous SMB chromatography and subsequently served as senior engineer and habilitation candidate, building and leading a research group in adsorption and chromatography. In 1998, he received the University of Dortmund’s teaching award, and in 1999 completed his habilitation on technical chromatography, earning the Venia Legendi in process engineering. He then joined Bayer AG in technical development, where from 2000 he was responsible for adsorption, chromatography, and ion exchange, including process development, plant design, and strategic research projects in fluid and bioprocess engineering. Until 2006, he held technical and economic responsibility for chromatography process development and plant engineering before assuming his current role at TU Clausthal.

Workshop

Driving Digital Excellence in Chemical Manufacturing – Unlocking Opportunities and Managing Risks

Case Study

Tuesday, April 28

04:30 pm - 05:00 pm

Live in Frankfurt

Less Details

The chemical industry is entering a new era where connectivity, automation, and data-driven intelligence can transform production efficiency, safety, and sustainability. While Industry 4.0 offers tremendous potential, it also introduces challenges connected to system complexity, cybersecurity, and organizational readiness. This session explores how chemical manufacturers can embrace digital excellence by leveraging smart factory technologies while managing risks through structured governance and capability building. In this session, you will learn:

  • How key Industry 4.0 technologies (AI, digital twins, advanced analytics) improve operational excellence in chemical plants.
  • The most common pitfalls in digital transformation initiatives — and how to mitigate them effectively.
  • How to create a scalable smart factory roadmap that balances quick wins with long-term digital maturity.
  • Which organizational capabilities and cultural enablers are essential for sustainable transformation.
