Peter Seitel has worked for Merck since 1992. He has had various functions in various departments such as the sales department electronic chemicals (product management, key account management) up until 1999, Senior Manager for order management electronic chemicals from 1999-2003, Associate Director supply chain management inorganics filling 2003 – 2008, Director Central Warehousing and Inbound processes – Life science Operations 2008 – 2018, Head of PM-ODG- Services: Production supply and preparation, Filling pf customer packages and Distribution for Performance Materials.

we.CONECT:The pop in your job – you are the Director Performance Materials | Integrated Supply Chain | PM-ODG Services at Merck KGaA– which tasks would you highlight as particularly interesting? What is most exciting about your role, and why are you passionate about your job?

Peter Seitel:My passion is supply chain since more than 25 years – starting in front of the customer, understanding requirements of the business, teamwork throughout the process chain, solution-orientated networking with interface partners, inspiring and motivating as teamlead since nearly 20 years.

we.CONECT: You will address the topic on ‘Managing diverse production units – how to divide ERPs while harmonizing supply chain management?’ How would you define the topic yourself? “The topic is relevant for us because ?

Peter Seitel: Our vision is to be best in class in all business units, so we have to align the IT-landscape, although certain friction points must be taken into account at the beginning.

we.CONECT: Looking at the various case studies that are on the agenda for this year’s Global ManuChem Strategies: Where do you see the particularities of your approach? What can other companies learn from you?

Peter Seitel: For our approach we want to be the chemical partner for new business fields without neglecting retracted supply chain and manufacturing models.

we.CONECT:You are for the first time speaker at our Global ManuChem Strategies. What are your most important expectations for the event?

Peter Seitel: As I was participating at a supply chain event of weconect I´m exciting for interesting and inspiring discussions with peers from our industry

we.CONECT: Which topics are particularly important for you in the context of the conference and why?

Peter Seitel: The future orientation regarding digitalization in the chemical industry, the link between new models and well established processes.
